Frequently asked questions
What is topography and topographic mapping?
Topography in mapping involves the recording of geographic terrain features and visualising the three-dimensional quality of a landscape in a two-dimensional form. This is done through the use or contour lines, which record the shape and height of terrain, with each line representing a set increase in height.
Where do you get your topographic data from?
Our prints are designed using the NZ Contours Topo50 map, created by Land Information New Zealand (LINZ). This data provides topographic mapping for the New Zealand mainland and Chatham Islands at 1:50,000 scale (meaning each contour line represents a 20m increase in height).
Can I go hiking using one of your maps?
Unfortunately that wouldn’t be the best idea, as our maps are stylised and designed for hanging on your wall. But we hope you enjoy your walk.
Where are your maps printed?
Our maps are proudly designed and printed in Wellington, New Zealand.
What is your printing technique?
Our maps are printed using high quality fine art inks (Giclee) onto 235gsm watercolour paper. This combination guarantees quality detailed prints which will last for years.
